"Red Shoe Origin"

The Red Shoe thing started back in the mid 2000's as a direct rip off of Garrison Keillor's famous Red Adidas's that he wears during his Prairie Home Companion Shows. I started wearing red Van's to my photo-shoots casually and soon they became a common conversation piece. I knew that it was a 'thing' when i covered a concert at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater and one of the security officers joked that my photos wouldn't turn out because I wasn't wearing my red shoes. That was possibly the last time I didn't wear them.

So, the hashtag has permeated through my family and from left to right is me (#redshoephotographer), my daughter Courtney (#theotherredshorphotographer), daughter Jessica (#thenonredshoephotographerthatonlytakesselfies - her own tag!), 'daughter through friendship' Kylie (#theadoptedredshoephotographer) and my beautiful wife Dana (#redshoephotographerwife). Van's folk... I expect a sponsorship! =o)

"VAFProduction"

I have the privilege of photographing productions brought to us by The Virginia Arts Festival. Some of the unsung hero's behind these productions are the production teams that are onsite hours before and after the artists. These professionals plan, drive, setup lights and sound, setting stages as well as cater and provide security so that I can come in and photograph the apex of their labor.

Do me a favor and give a Production Tech a hug the next time you are at a VaArtsFest show! #vafproduction #polstonfreelance #redshoephotographer
